I would have LOVED to have had a book like this in middle school， with a diverse cast and a kid who lost her dad。 Really looking forward to Book 2。 The pacing felt uneven， and I would have liked a little more world building， but overall quite pleased with this。

The art was nice， and so were the vibrant colors， but the story was just okay。 The plot used a lot of clichés which kept the story from feeling fresh。
